The green tea benefits belong from the tea’s quality. There are many variations between price and quality within the parts of plant used and how they are processed. There are many types of green tea that fall down outside the requirements. Here are the most famous and high quality types of green tea.

The Best Japanese Green Tea

The best Japanese green tea seems to be from Yame and Uji regions. The tea from Uji area is usually called Ujicha or Uji tea.

The highest quality Japanese green tea is Gyokuro which translates as ‘jade dew’. This tea is special because of the picking during the first round of harvest. Before harvest it is also shaded from the sun for some time.

The next one is Sencha. It is also the most common in Japan and worldwide. This type of tea is also picked during the first round of harvest but it is not protected from the sunlight.  

The lowest quality tea is bancha which leaves are picked from the later round of harvest.

Matcha – the powdered green tea 

This ground tea is made only from the highest leaves, which are dried and milled into a fine powder. It is expensive and primarily used in the Japanese tea ceremony. It is also widely used as flavor for ice cream and other sweets in Japan.

The 5 Most Famous Chinese Green Teas

The home of the most famous and high-quality Chinese teas is Zhejiang Province.

Here are the most famous green teas in China:
  • Dragon Well (Chinese name: Xi Hu Long Jing). It originates in Zhejiang Province. This tea is very common falsified and mostly the falsification of Dragon Well green tea found in the market is produced in Sinchuan Province. 
  • Spring Snail (Dong Ting Bi Luo Chun). As the Dragon Well, this type of tea is also falsified on the tea market under this name. It originally should be from Jiangsu Province.
  • Yellow Mountain Fur Peak (Huáng shān Máo Fēng)
  • Melon Seed (Liu ān Guā Piàn)
  • Houkui Tea (Tai Ping Hou Kui). The best quality of this tea is grown in the villages of Hougang, Haukeng and Yanjiachun.
