As we already know the green tea has many health benefits. Also it may help prevent against many types of cancer. For example, the cancer rate is lower in countries such as Japan than in U.S. despite there are more cigarette smokers. The studies have shown that polyphenols in tea, especially in green tea, help kill cancerous cells and stop them from growing.

Bladder Cancer

In one study the people with and without bladder cancer were compared. The researchers found that bladder cancer were less likely in those women who drank black tea and powdered green tea. The follow-up study revealed that people with bladder cancer, especially men, who drank green tea had a better 5-years survival rate.

Breast Cancer

The studies in animal and test tube show that polyphenols, contained in green tea, slow down the growth of breast cancer cells. One study of 472 women with various stages of breast cancer found that the least spread of cancer had those women who drank the most green tea. It was particularly seeing in premenopausal women who had early stages of breast cancer. Women with late stages had little or no effect from drinking green tea.

The women with early stage of this disease should drink at least 5 cups of green tea daily to see the effect and prevent against the cancer coming back. In another study, the researchers found that women under 50 who drank 3 or more cups of tea every day had 37% less chance to develop breast cancer.

Ovarian Cancer

The clinical study was done in people with ovarian cancer in China. The results shown that women, who drank at least one cup of tea a day, lived longer with this disease than those who didn’t. Otherwise, in the other studies wasn't found any positive effects.

Colon or Rectal Cancer

The studies with those types of cancer had quite conflicting results. Some studies found decreasing risk, while others show increasing risk in colon or rectal cancer. Women who drink at least 5 cups of green tea per day had lower risk of this disease. But there was no effect for men. However, it is needed more research before recommending the green tea as prevention of colorectal cancer.

Esophageal Cancer

The researches with this type of cancer also show conflicting results. Actually, the hotter and stronger the tea is, the greater the risk. More studies are needed before recommending the green tea as prevention for esophageal cancer.

Lung Cancer

There was also conflicting results. More research is wanted to recommend green tea for prevention of lung cancer.

Pancreatic Cancer

One large study found that those who drank the most green tea had less risk to develop this disease compared with non-drinkers. That was especially seen in women, about 50%. The men showed lesser results – 37%. However, it is still unclear whether green tea has any beneficial effects for lowering pancreatic cancer risk.

Prostate Cancer

The clinical studies suggest that green tea extract prevent the growth of prostate cancer cells with increasing frequency, duration and quantity of green tea. However, people who having chemotherapy should talk to their doctors before drinking the teas. The green and black tea extracts may lessen the effect of chemotherapy drugs.

Skin Cancer

The scientists suggest that the polyphenols, found in green tea, have anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties and may help prevent the growth of skin tumors.

Stomach Cancer

There also are few different opinions between stomach cancer and green tea. Some studies found decreasing risk of this cancer about half, compared green tea drinkers and non-drinkers. Others found no association. Some researches showed that green tea can increase the risk of stomach cancer.

To Sum Up the beneficial effects between Green Tea and Cancer

The high quality green tea or green tea extract supplements can be a great way for prevention of cancer risk. Especially that the tea supplements have high concentration in polyphenols that is needed to prevent against cancer. Of course, always ask your doctor before drinking the green tea for prevention of any diseases.

Drink the green tea regularly at least two cups every day to see the positive results and beneficial effects. But do not overdose. The 1 – 10 cups per day is the best daily amount of green tea. Otherwise, too much green tea can have opposite effect.
